FAQ

Frequently Ask Questions

Dental Check-Ups and Cleanings:

The recommended frequency for check-ups can vary depending on your individual oral health. Generally, healthy adults with good oral hygiene habits can benefit from check-ups once a year. However, if you have risk factors like gum disease, diabetes, or frequent cavities, more frequent visits (every 3-6 months) might be recommended. We'll discuss the optimal schedule for you during your consultation.

Similar to check-ups, cleaning frequency depends on your oral health. Typically, professional cleanings are recommended every 6 months to remove plaque and tartar buildup that brushing and flossing alone can't reach. We'll personalize a cleaning schedule based on your needs.

Oral Hygiene and Concerns:

Mouthwash can be a beneficial addition to your oral hygiene routine, but it's not a replacement for brushing and flossing. Consult with us to determine if a daily mouthwash is right for you and choose one that doesn't contain alcohol (can be drying).

Modern dental X-rays use minimal radiation. We take all necessary precautions to minimize exposure, including using collimators and lead aprons. We'll only recommend X-rays when necessary for diagnosis and treatment planning.

Tooth sensitivity occurs when the dentin layer beneath your enamel becomes exposed. This can be caused by worn enamel, gum recession, cracked teeth, or certain dental procedures. We can diagnose the cause of your sensitivity and recommend solutions.

Temporary sensitivity after cleaning is fairly common, especially if you have gum disease or buildup. This usually subsides within a day or two. If it persists, let us know.

Dental Procedures

A filling repairs a cavity in the tooth enamel. A root canal treatment (RCT) becomes necessary when decay reaches the inner pulp of the tooth. During an RCT, the infected pulp is removed, the canals are cleaned and disinfected, and the tooth is sealed.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends scheduling your baby's first dental visit within 6 months of their first tooth erupting, but no later than their first birthday. Early visits establish a positive dental experience and allow us to monitor growth and development.

Pregnancy and Dental Care

Routine dental care is safe and essential during pregnancy. Certain procedures might be postponed until after delivery, but we can discuss the best course of action for you based on your trimester and needs.

Teething and Baby Teeth

The timing of baby teeth loss can vary, but it typically begins around age 6 and continues through the teenage years. We can monitor your child's development and address any concerns.

Diet and Oral Health

Sugary and starchy foods can contribute to cavities if not properly cleaned away. A balanced diet and good oral hygiene habits are key to preventing cavities.

Preventative Care

Brushing twice daily, flossing once daily, maintaining a healthy diet, and scheduling regular dental check-ups and cleanings are the cornerstones of preventing tooth decay, gum disease, and other dental problems. We can provide personalized guidance for optimal oral health.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a safe and effective option for replacing missing teeth. They have a high success rate when placed by a qualified dentist and cared for properly. We can discuss if implants are right for you during a consultation.

Dental implants are a good option for replacing missing teeth and restoring function and aesthetics. They can be used for single or multiple teeth and offer a long-lasting solution. We can assess your needs and determine if implants are the best course of action.
